In 1984, fast-moving fire in a hardware store in Pasadena killed four people.

In January of 1987, a string of fires broke out in several different retail stores in the California Central Valley...two in Bakersfield, two stores in Tulare, and two more in Fresno. Thankfully, unlike the Pasadena fire, the destruction from these fires in the Central Valley was limited to property damage...no lives were lost.

In the next several years, more suspicious fires...dozens actually...were set in the Southern California and the Central Coast areas.

Thanks to the hard work, determination, and tenacity of Captain Marvin Casey,  a Bakersfield Fire Department arson investigator, a suspect was identified, apprehended, and prosecuted.
